Who We Are

Hayde Construction Limited is Adam Hayde's building company, based in Rolleston in the Selwyn District and established in 2024. It is a small business built the way a trade business should be: the person who looks at your job, prices it and builds it is the same person, and the same phone number works before, during and after.

Adam has 26 years in the trade and is a Licensed Building Practitioner in the Carpentry class, listed on the public register kept by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. That licence is what allows him to carry out restricted building work - the structural and weathertightness parts of a home renovation - and to sign the record of work for it at the end. The work is residential: bathroom renovations, alterations and relining, kitchens and laundries, decks, ramps and garden buildings, and repairs and maintenance, across Selwyn, south-west Christchurch and Mid Canterbury.

How We Work

Every job starts with Adam at the house. Not a price over the phone, because that number is worth nothing until someone has seen the framing behind the shower, the direction of the joists over the wall you want gone, or the ground the deck is going to stand on. Then a written quote that says what is included, so you can compare it with another quote like for like, and a written contract where the law requires one - the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment sets out why a written contract is required for residential building work costing $30,000 or more including GST.

On the job, the other trades are Adam's problem rather than yours. The plumber and the electrician on a bathroom or a kitchen are booked and sequenced by him. Council consents and inspections, where a job needs them, are handled as part of the job. Dust sheets go down, rubbish goes away, and the house stays a house you can live in while the work happens.

Honest About the Job

A good builder tells you things you did not ask to hear: that the wall you want gone is holding the roof up, that the sill you wanted painted is rotten underneath, that the cheaper shower liner will do the job perfectly well. Adam would rather have that conversation at the quote stage than halfway through the job, and would rather lose a job than do one badly. The photographs on this site are of real work in real houses, taken on a phone on the day, and they are the best account of how we work that we can give.

Where we work

Rolleston, Selwyn, Christchurch and Mid Canterbury

Based in Rolleston and working across the Selwyn District - Lincoln, Prebbleton, West Melton, Darfield, Leeston and the towns between - the south-western side of Christchurch from Hornby and Halswell to Riccarton, and Mid Canterbury from Rakaia to Ashburton and Methven.

Builders for Rolleston

Home base. Most of Rolleston was built after 2005 and a lot of it after the earthquakes, so the work here is less about old houses and more about making a newer one fit the family: a bathroom that was builder-basic when the house was new, a deck the section never got, a wall between the kitchen and the lounge that nobody wanted.

Builders for Lincoln and Prebbleton

Older established streets around Lincoln's centre and the university, and new subdivisions on the edges of both towns. Villas and 1960s to 1980s houses in the old parts that are due bathrooms, kitchens and rot repairs; new houses on the fringes that want decks, fences and sheds.

Builders for West Melton and Templeton

Lifestyle blocks and newer houses on bigger sections, which means outdoor structures: decks, verandas, sleepouts, greenhouses and sheds, and the ramps and handrails that make a house work for older family members.

Builders for Darfield and the Malvern towns

Darfield, Kirwee, Sheffield and the farms between them. Older weatherboard houses and farm cottages that need honest repair work - rotten sills and joists, tired bathrooms, doors that no longer shut - and the odd bigger alteration.

Builders for Leeston, Southbridge and Ellesmere

The southern half of Selwyn: small towns with a mix of older cottages and newer homes, plenty of rural properties, and the same list of jobs everywhere - bathrooms, decks, repairs and the alterations that make an older house liveable.

Builders for South-west Christchurch

Hornby, Halswell, Wigram, Templeton, Yaldhurst and Riccarton are on our side of the city and easy to get to from Rolleston. Post-war brick and weatherboard houses in Hornby and Riccarton, and the newer subdivisions at Wigram and Halswell that are reaching their first renovation.

Are you a Licensed Building Practitioner?

Yes. Adam Hayde holds a Carpentry licence and is listed on the public LBP register, which anyone can search by name.

Do you do the work yourselves?

Yes. Hayde Construction is owner operated. Adam quotes the job and Adam is on site doing the work, with a plumber and an electrician brought in for their parts of a bathroom or a kitchen.

What size of job do you take on?

From a single door to a full bathroom or an alteration that opens up the living area of a house. New homes are not what we do; renovating, altering, adding to and repairing the house you already have is.

Where are you based?

Rolleston, in the Selwyn District, working across Lincoln, Prebbleton, West Melton, Darfield, Leeston and the towns between, the south-western side of Christchurch, and Mid Canterbury from Rakaia to Ashburton and Methven.
